\n Overcoming Strongholds: The Lie You Stopped Noticing

Taught by Pastor Brandon Sereg, Lead Pastor of Vibrant Church in Davie, FL.

Overcoming strongholds begins with noticing the lie you stopped noticing.
A stronghold is not a demon hiding under your bed. It is a lie you have believed for so long that you have stopped noticing it is a lie — and it holds you exactly where you are. This message from the Breaking Free series is about how those lies get in, and how they come down.

Overcoming strongholds: the problem with deception is that it deceives

That sounds obvious until you sit with it. Nobody walks around aware that they are believing something false. If you knew it was false, you would not believe it. Which means the honest question is not “am I deceived about anything?” — it is “what would I not currently be able to see?”

The illustration that carries this message is a woman held captive by a man who, it turned out, had no weapon. All she had to say was one true sentence and the nightmare would have ended. She did not say it, because she believed the lie. And that is the picture: some people are two steps from freedom and have simply accepted the story they were told about themselves.

Your brain was built for this

Strongholds are built by repetition, and they come down the same way. What psychology calls neurological pathways is really just us catching up to something God designed — the mind grooves a track wherever thought travels most often, and it will keep taking that track until a new one is worn in.

Which is genuinely good news. The pathway that got you here is not permanent. It is just well-travelled.

Go spiritual before you go digital

The practical ask in this message is deliberately unglamorous: get with God before you get with anybody else. Before the phone, before the feed, before the inbox.

Which means waking up earlier. Which means going to bed earlier. Which means not watching one more episode at one in the morning. It is not a profound spiritual discipline — it is a decision made the night before, and it is the one most people skip while looking for something deeper.

Where this lands

You do not break a stronghold by trying harder inside it. You break it by replacing the lie with something true, often enough that the new pathway becomes the default. Start with what you let into your head first each morning.

Keep going

If a lie has been running your thought life: help with anxiety and stress, verses worth putting in front of the lie, and how to pray when your mind will not slow down. A Connect Group is where most people actually get free, because someone else can see what you cannot.
