The Message in One Sentence
You are in a real spiritual battle, but the enemy is not creative — he is predictable. He runs the same three plays he has always run, and the way you answer him is the way Jesus answered him: with what is written.
Know What He Is After
Jesus described the enemy’s job description in one line: “The thief comes only to steal, kill, and destroy” (John 10:10). He wants to steal the good God intends to pour into your life. The word kill is not a metaphor. And destroy is what is left when the first two work.
Here is the part that changes how you fight: the spirit at work against you is not stronger than the Spirit of God inside you. Not close.
He Only Has Three Lures
Scripture puts everything the world throws at you into three buckets — “the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life” (1 John 2:16). That is the whole tackle box.
Think about fishing. You try one lure, and if the fish will not hit it, you try another, and another, until you find what they hit on. The enemy fishes the same way. He is not inventing new temptations for you; he is running the ones that have already worked on you. Which means you can name yours before it is cast.
How the Slide Actually Happens
Nobody sets out for the bottom. It starts with a line you draw — “two drinks and that’s it” — and then two becomes four and four felt fine, and eventually it takes you further than you ever meant to go. You did not want to end up there. You just kept renegotiating the line.
The same is true of the places we go looking for answers — readings, astrology, whatever promises to show you the future. Some of that is more real than people think, and engaging with it opens a door to spirits that are not holy. If you want to know your future, there is a better place to ask.
Breaking the Generational Pattern
Watch long enough and you start to see it — the same thing coming at your family that came at the one before it. The enemy has been throwing something at your family line for generations.
God is looking at you to be the one who breaks it. There can be blessing instead of curse. There can be a branch of the family tree that is order instead of chaos, and it can start with you.
Fight the Way Jesus Fought
In the wilderness the enemy even quotes Scripture at Jesus — the psalm about angels guarding you, catching you before your foot hits the stone. And Jesus answers, “It is written.”
Think about that. If anyone had the standing to fight with His own authority, it was the Son of God. He used the Word instead. That is your weapon too, and it is the reason ordinary believers can stand.
It is also worth remembering what it cost to put that Word in your hands. William Tyndale set out to translate the Bible into English so ordinary people could read it for themselves, and it nearly cost him his life more than once before it finally did. The book on your nightstand was smuggled to you.
Your Next Step
Men especially — you already know this instinct. If an intruder came through your door tonight, you would be up in the dark grabbing a lamp to defend your house. That instinct is from God. The question is whether you are using it on the battle that is actually happening in your home.
Start with one verse you can say out loud when the familiar lure gets cast. If you want people fighting alongside you, join us at Vibrant Church in Davie on Sundays at 10:00 and 11:30 AM, or watch online.
