Live in purpose, or you start quitting
The pattern is quiet and predictable. When you cannot name what you are for, every hard season becomes a reason to stop — the job, the marriage, the commitment, the habit. Not because you are weak, but because endurance needs a destination. Take away the destination and the pain is just pain.
Which reframes the thing most of us pray about. Some pain is not there to be removed. It is there to be endured, because there is something on the other side of it that makes the enduring worth it. That is not a reason to stay somewhere harmful. It is a reason to stop assuming that difficulty is a sign you took the wrong turn.
Stop wanting somebody else’s assignment
“My lot is secure” is the posture here: I do not have all the gifts, and I am good with the ones I have.
A lot of frustration in church world is really just envy of someone else’s gift. Preachers preach, singers sing, and the handful of people who can do both are genuinely irritating. The point is not false modesty — it is that comparing your assignment to somebody else’s is a reliable way to do neither well.
The kind of sin nobody preaches about
Scripture has more than one word for sin. One is the obvious kind — crossing a line you knew was there. The other is missing the mark: knowing the good you were meant to do, and simply not doing it. James puts it plainly — if anyone knows the good they ought to do and does not do it, that is sin for them.
That second category catches far more of us than the first. Not the things you did. The thing you were built for and never started.
Where this lands
Find your purpose and go all in on it. Not once you feel ready, and not once the hard season passes — those are the conditions under which nobody ever starts.
