For the person who got what they wanted

Successful, and Still Empty

You built the thing. The practice, the firm, the portfolio, the house in the good school district. And somewhere in the last year you noticed that the feeling you were promised on the other side of it never actually showed up. Successful and still empty is a strange place to live, and it is more common than anyone admits.

Nobody warns you about this part. Everyone warns you about failure. Almost nobody warns you that success can arrive on schedule and still leave the question underneath it completely untouched.

If that is where you are, this page is for you. Not to talk you out of ambition — ambition is not the problem — but to name what is actually happening and point at what has helped other people in exactly your position.

Why Achievement Does Not Settle It

There is a mechanism to this and it is worth understanding. Every goal you set carries an implied promise: when I get there, I will feel like enough. The goal gets met. The feeling does not arrive. So the mind does the only thing it knows how to do — it moves the goal.

That is not a character flaw. It is what happens when you ask an achievement to do a job it was never able to do. Solomon, who had more resources than anyone reading this, wrote an entire book about running that experiment to its end. He built, planted, acquired, and denied himself nothing. His conclusion: everything was meaningless, a chasing after the wind (Ecclesiastes 2:11).

He was not depressed when he wrote it. He was thorough.

The Three Things People Usually Try First

1. More

A bigger number, a second location, the next title. This works, briefly, because pursuit itself is absorbing. Then you arrive again.

2. Optimization

The cold plunge, the sleep tracker, the reading list, the new operating system for your life. Genuinely useful, and entirely incapable of answering a question about meaning.

3. Numbing

The pour at nine o’clock, the scroll, the thing nobody knows about. This is the one people are most ashamed of and least alone in.

None of these are stupid. They are all reasonable responses to a real ache. They just do not reach the part of you that is aching.

Successful and Still Empty: What Actually Helps

Stop trying and start trusting

High-capacity people are, almost by definition, people whose effort has always worked. Which makes grace genuinely difficult — it is the one thing in your life you cannot earn, out-work, or optimize your way into. Faith Starts With Trust, Not Try is the message on this, and it is the one that tends to land hardest with people who are good at things.

Let one person actually know you

The higher you climb the fewer people there are who know the unedited version. Studies keep finding that a large share of adults — and closer to half of men — have nobody they would tell the truth to. That is not a small problem; it is the mechanism by which successful people stay stuck. How To Be Fully Free is about exactly this.

Give it away on purpose

There is a reason generosity keeps showing up in this conversation. Not because the church wants your money — because putting your resources behind something that outlasts you is one of the few things that reliably reorders how a person feels about what they have built. That is what Kingdom Builders is.

Find out what you are actually for

Purpose is not a job title and it is not a passion you discover on a retreat. It is the intersection of what God made you good at and what He put in front of you. Our purpose page and the full set of messages on purpose work through it.

You are not the car you drive. You are not the house you live in. You are not the number of followers you have. Only Jesus and His Word have the right to define who you are.

Where To Start

Come to a service. If you are successful and still empty, this is a good place to say so out loud. Sit in the back. Nobody will make you stand up, introduce yourself, or give anything. It is about an hour and fifteen minutes, and we know your time is expensive.

Vibrant Church meets Sundays at 9:30 and 11:00 AM at Indian Ridge Middle School, 1355 S Nob Hill Rd, Davie, FL 33324 — roughly twenty minutes from Weston, fifteen from Southwest Ranches, eighteen from Plantation.

Plan Your Visit

Why do I feel empty after achieving my goals?

Being successful and still empty is common because achievement carries an implied promise it cannot keep — that arriving will make you feel like enough. When the feeling does not arrive, the mind moves the goal rather than questioning the premise. Ecclesiastes is an entire book written by a man who ran that experiment with unlimited resources and concluded it was chasing the wind.

Is it wrong to be ambitious or wealthy as a Christian?

No. Scripture does not treat ambition or wealth as sin. It treats them as weight — something that will either be carried on purpose or carry you. The question is never how much you have, it is what it is for and who you are without it.

I have not been to church in years. Would I fit at Vibrant?

Most people here had either a bad experience with church or no experience at all. There is no dress code, the service runs about an hour and fifteen minutes, and you will never be asked to stand up, give, or sign anything on a first visit.
