How to Pray

How to Pray When You Are Down

You don’t need the right words. You just need a willing heart — God hears you right where you are.

What Do You Say to God When You Have Nothing Left?

There are seasons in life when prayer feels impossible. When the words won’t come. When you’re too exhausted, too angry, too numb to even know where to start. Maybe you’ve tried before and felt like God wasn’t listening.

Here’s what we know: prayer isn’t about having the perfect words or the perfect faith. It’s about showing up honestly — broken, confused, and real — and trusting that God is already there.

Scripture

“The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.”

— Psalm 34:18

Simple Ways to Pray When Words Don’t Come

Start with honesty. Tell God exactly how you feel — even if it’s anger, doubt, or emptiness. The Psalms are full of raw, unfiltered prayers. Yours can be too.

Use someone else’s words. Praying Scripture is one of the most powerful things you can do. Start with Psalm 23, Psalm 46, or the Lord’s Prayer in Matthew 6.

Sit in silence. Sometimes prayer is simply being still and present with God. You don’t always have to speak to connect.

Pray with others. At Vibrant Church, we believe community prayer is one of God’s greatest gifts. Come worship with us and let others carry you in prayer when you can’t carry yourself.
